HELLO, IM NOT SURE IF I HAVE POUCHITIS OR SOMETHING ELSE? I HAD MY ILEOSTOMY REVERSED 9/11/06. HERE LATELY WHEN I HAVE A BM, IT FEELS LIKE IM PASSING PIECES OF GLASS, AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT WAS BECAUSE I WASNT CHEWING MY FOOD GOOD ENOUGH. I HAVE BEEN PAYING CLOSE ATTENTION THAT I DO CHEW GOOD SO THAT CANT BE IT. I HAVE HAD SOME BLOOD ALSO WHEN GOING TO THE BATHROOM. THE OTHER DAY THERE WAS QUITE A BIT OF BLOOD; IN THE TOILET TOO. IT HAS SINCE GONE. BUT I STILL HAVE THE AWFUL PAIN WHEN I GO TO THE BATHROOM. BRINGS TEARS TO MY EYES QUITE OFTEN. CAN ANYBODY HELP IN ANY WAY? THANKS KIM

Your explanation of "passing glass" would indicate a fissure to me. If you're not familiar, that is basically a small tear in your anus. They are extremely painful. Blood is not always seen with pouchitis, although some people experience it.
Best thing to do is call your surgeon. In the meantime, get in your tub and soak as often as you can, take some Tylenol if you need it....your surgeon will probably prescribe a cortisone/topical cream. Some people also use a topical numbing cream.
Good luck, I'd bet you have a fissure Smiler

Kim - I agree with Shelby. It sounds like a fissure. The classic symptom? Feels like you're crapping glass or razor blades. Make an appointment with your doctor. Another medication they might prescribe is nitroglycerin with might cause a bad headache that lasts several minutes. Also, adjust your food so you lessen the number of bowel movements you're having.

Hi Kim, I can only speak from my experience. I have had the same symptoms you speak of and have had a flex sig and my problem was diagnosed as pouchitis. This quickly went away with the use of antibiotics. I think you really need to speak with your Dr. and get the proper diagnosis so you can get on your way to feeling better.
stay Well, Craig
