Hi-Could hardly wait to get back home after a long weekend so I could report on a combination of two different therapies that I kind of accidentally stumbled upon recently. When at the Cleveland Clinic somewhat over a year ago I saw Dr. Bo Shen after reading about Pepto Bismol therapy for those diagnosed with irritable pouch. Also an Amitriptyline therapy for the same condition. I could not find(nor did I remember) what mg to take for a certain time period etc. I had been doing the pepto for the last year & it seemed to help somewhat(although I still had alot of urgency at times) but had almost completely quit the pepto. Then I had a really bad couple of days & was ready to go back on Cipro for awhile, but decided instead to try the Pepto. (this is getting really long but I will continue) I had previously used the Amitriptyline as a sleep agent but had gone on Melatonin instead. So---I got the Amitriptyline refilled(25 mg) & used them together(the Pepto & Amitriptyline) I also use a thickening product(pectin, Metamucil, Salba, etc. (it varies + Digestive enzymes). But the exciting part is that for the 1st time in a long time I was able to travel without stopping very often for a bathroom break. I almost could not believe it. And at night sleeping til 5 has not happened for a long time. I might add that at Mayo they have said that I have Chronic Pouchitis . The prospect of taking both long term does not excite me in the least, but it has to be better than constant antibiotics that never really took it away. ( took every antibiotic & some combos) On Sunday I ate alot of junky picnic food(desserts etc,)but did not have the urgency etc that often occurred when I did not eat right. I still think it is better to eat correctly & for me that means not too many different types of foods & not too many sweets. I hope that this might help someone else who has been searching for SOMETHING that may give them some relief from the constant pooping. (On Sunday I did go more often because of all of the sweets etc. I suppose).
