Hey guys!
I haven't been around for a while, i have been busy after getting engaged Well the never ending pouchitis saga is rearing its head again i'm tempted to start a very low dose of cipro say 250mg mon wed fri. what are your thoughts? I have in the past had tendon probs and major joint and muscle issues from high doses. (not confirmed that it was the cipro, though I have no other explainations?) it really is the only thing that gives me a great pouch function... Is it too risky?? Also I have a wedding in December and who wants pouchitis on their wedding day! |

Hi Tam,
As for the Cipro, well I would see if your doctor could prescribe you something else (there are lots of antibiotics out there). I wouldn't advise using Cipro with your history of joint/tendon problems, it just isn't worth the risk in my opinion. I would get in touch with your doctor and see what he says. Good luck for the big day and with getting the pouchitis under control. One glass of red wine per day is good for the heart..... it's just that mine's a big heart so I need a very big glass!!!! D-| Cheers! |

Shell makes a good point, but if you can get by with very low doses you probably can also get by without side effects. You may even want to go as low as 125 mg. Of course, you won't know until you try it. Do you not tolerate Flagyl? That can be taken low dose for maintenance also.
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

Thankyou
He is a terribly special guy, to me he has everthing I have ever wanted. I found the flagyl didn't do a lot for me, plus we like to have a glass of wine or 2 when we go to dinner.. I guess it is something i will keep considering, it is true i was taking massive doses around the time my problems started. However did not resolve very many months after stopping them.. hmmm I tried to attach a pic from our engagement party, hope it works! 1TamaraRon's_engagement_party_23.2.2007.jpg (295 Kb, 38 downloads) |

Congratulations on your engagement!!!!!!
As for your pouchitis, don't self-medicate, call your doctor and see if there's another antibiotic that can help. Good Luck janna |

You may want to try tetracycline or septra (only if you tolerate sulfa with the septra).

Hi ya
I was going well on the tetracycline until intolerance came along. Now seem to be doing well on keflex. I think maybe I need to rotate more often before I become intolerant... Seems to work, hope this helps some.. |

xoxo...congrats on your engagement...xoxo... very cute couple
I am now taking a ****tail of abx for cuffitis-Cipro, Xifaxin, Flagyl, and prednisone. My concern, besides the side effects of Cipro-tendon pain, migraines, upset stomach..., am I at risk of developing antibiotic resistance? Cipro is strong stuff and I'm afraid to overuse it. ✫annie✫ Cuffitis, PVF, Pouchitis, umbilical hernia, type 3&4 adhesions. JPouch re-do & ileo, hernia repair, mucosectomy in CC on 9/12/07. I last a few weeks tops and then have to change them I am waiting for xifixifan (sorry wrong spelling) to come to Australia, cause i'd love to try it! Good luck x |
