Got a question about treating pouchitis. End of Oct I had a bout of pouchitis (or so my doctor thinks...he didn't examine me at the time due to being in so much pain). He prescribed me flagyl which seemed to help (and also cortifoam for a previous ulcers I had at the end). The flagyl took about 4 days to feel any affect but it did work.
A couple weeks after finishing the flagyl, I noticed that I was getting cramping back. Not as severe, but it was definitely there. My doctor was hesitant to put me back on the flagyl but said to continue with the cortifoam cream. At the same time, my husband and I are going through fertility tests and I have one tomorrow which required me to start the vibramycin antiobitic this past Sunday (today is Tues). I noticed right away that the stomach cramps were subsiding. I'm wondering since vibramycin is to kill bacteria, is it possible this has helped my recurrance of the pouchitis (if that's what it was)? Will the pouchitis return once I stop the antibiotic? Any comments are grately appreciated. |

Well, it certainly does sound like you have recurrent pouchitis and sometimes it takes a prolonged course to really nip it in the bud. Hopefully, this does not mean you have chronic pouchitis that will require continuous treatment.
Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |
