A couple weeks ago I had symptoms of pouchitis. My doctor didn't want to use the scope to look since I was so tender but prescribed flagyl based on my symptoms for 2 weeks. It took a bit to work, but my symptoms did clear up.

I've now been off the meds for 1.5 weeks and I've been getting cramping again. Is it possible it's come back??? Or would something else be wrong? (About a year ago, my doctor did see dormant ulcers in my pouch). I'm scared this isn't going away (and my husband and i are going through fertlity stuff so don't want this to interfere)

Treatment based on symptoms alone is pretty reasonable, but if the symptoms return, you probably need to be scoped to make sure it really is pouchitis and not IPS (irritable pouch syndrome).

Thanks Jan. Can I ask what irritable pouch syndrome is? Is it curable?

IPS is virtually the same as IBS and is a functional state. There is no cure, per se, but there is treatment. Typically, antidepressants and antispasmotics are the best treatment.
