After reading about all of your positive experience with VSL#3 I decided to order some for myself. I am not quite sure though about the dose. How much do you take? Is it neccessary to take VSL#3 DS or could a single sachet of regular VSL#3 daily be enough to keep pouchitis in remission? The studies I find seem to be on VSL#3 X2 daily.

I understand some of you take VSL#3 DS simply because only that certain type it is covered by the insurance. But as I live in Sweden, where I have to pay for my own VSL#3, I am in doubt about how much to take.

Hi Sophia,
Thought I'd reply since my daughter uses VSL #3. She does not use the DS formula, and she takes it every other day. At first, she took 1/2 a packet until her system got used to it (3 weeks or so) as it does cause some abdominal discomfort at first, working her way to a packet per day. She did this regimen for about 6 months and then tapered to 1 every other day. She's been taking it for over a year and has not (knock wood) had pouchitis. Hope this helps! Best of Health to you Wink

Sofia,

Hi. My dose is 8 sachet per day. In australia they are 450Billion per sachet. In Europe, they may be 900billion so that would mean the dose would be 400Billion.

For me, I must have pouchitis under control before I begin. For me they are a good maintenance tool rather than something you use to treat a flare up.

As for 'DS' Im not sure what that is im afraid.

Hope this helps..

Regards
Jerry

I'd stick to 2 normal strength packets a day for a few weeks then, as you're paying for it yourself and it's not cheap, try dropping to one a day and see if it does the trick.

Thanks for the input! There seems to be quite different experiences here on the dosage.

Jerry: DS stands for double strength
