I am sorry your poor little guy is going thru this.

Try re-posting this in the general discussion forum...more people will see it and I know there are several parents on here whose young children have a j pouch. Hopefully they can offer some advice to you. Best wishes.

Marianne

DX UC 2005 when I was 37
Tried every drug and diet....all failed
Step 1- 6/25/10 (colectomy & J-pouch creation)
Step 2- 10/8/10 (take down)
Very pleased with my results.

If he's experiencing bleeding it could be cuffitis. That is treated differently than pouchitis. But to figure out what it is he'll probably have to have a doctor examine him.

I hope you get this resolved.

I am so sorry to hear about what your son and you are going through. I'm sorry I don't have any answers, and as Kathy said post in "general" or "help now" sections. Praying for your son.

I can't tell you if it's pouchitis or not but what I can say from one mother to another - The things our child has to go through and endure are tough to say the least and to have the added social issues don't help the psyche of our "healing" child. My own son had to deal with a small amount of stupidity and nastiness from a few other kids. All I could say to him is that those other kids have no idea of what he's gone through and even if they did they still wouldn't understand how courageous and strong of a person he is. What they think doesn't matter.
It's not okay for your little boy to have to endure ignorance and bullying for something he has no control over and never asked for!
I may have to take a trip to Scotland and kick some bully's ass - just kidding...but it's tempting Smiler

As for whether this stress can affect your son's health - I think it would definitely be a factor - not the cause but definitely a factor. Whenever my son would get nervous or upset it would always show it self in increased pouch output. We have spent alot of time learning to let things go and not let the stupid or insignificant things get to us.

We are about 2 and a half years post takedown and things are going great but I feel like it did take time for everything to work well and especially for kids incontinence can be a bit of an issue (we still use a pad when he sleeps)
I'm hoping he grows out of it but I keep reminding myself that he has had his whole "plumbing" redesigned.

I wish you and you son all the luck. I hope things get resolved in all areas!

son diagnosed with UC 2006 (age 6)
colectomy & jpouch surgery 7/08 (age 8)
takedown surgery 11/08 (age 9)
do great now - healthy, growing normal obnoxious Smiler tween!
