New poster here but have been lurking around for awhile. Up until this year, I'd had a few mild bouts of pouchitis. They usually lasted about a week then went away on their own. I didn't even know what it was until I had a sigmoidoscopy about 3 years ago when I had some anal stricturing + pouchitis was diagnosed at that time. Now, after the pouch has been in use for about 20 years, I have pouchitis that doesn't want to go away. My Dr. put me on Cipro for a week and continued to take Canasa for a few weeks after that. Didn't help much. Tried VSL #3 for about a month with no luck. Now have been back on Cipro/Canasa for another week with no change. The symptom is just pain, nothing else. Just pain in the pouch which doesn't seem to be affected by what I eat (although I haven't kept a diary). The Dr. gave me a 10-day Rx of Cipro which will run out soon. I've also been taking Vicodin on occasion to help with the pain. Should I request I stay on Cipro.. try another med...? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
