My daughter uses it for chronic pouchitis along with augmentin in her antibiotic rotation. Many years ago she was just on rifaximin (xifaxin) and it did the trick within a few days of starting it.
Best wishes!

will do if the VA approves it, i know my GI put in for it. I read up on it sounds like the better choice of antibiotic if u have to use one, it stays local in the GI tract. For now i started canasa and that seems to be helping things out, and stopped taking most of my workout products like whey and prework out drinks. Today i didnt even have to pop a pain pill! yay

Little update...I got the antibiotic and taking 3 pills a day, 200mg pills btw. Was on them for about three days. Didnt really notice any improvement in my condition and let me be clear my current condition is alittle unclear lol. As in i just dont really know exactly whats going on. Could be fissures, cuffitis, pouchitis hell idk. Anyways i tolerasted the drug well exceot i developed oral thrush, which is pretty nasty. So i stopped using it as i felt it started to cause more problems than help in my case. I am on oral nystatin for the fungal infection. Which maybe a blessing in itself as i always mulled over the idea of internal fungal infection but never recieved treatment for it. If i start feeling alot better within the week i am blaming candidia! lol

mh53mike - Sorry the cure caused more problems, seems to happen a lot in my family. My dad's currently in the hospital for several reasons that all started with an alergic reaction to an antibiotic.

Thanks for the update.

update- still taking oral nystatin, and started candigone. Upon recieving candigone i recognized it as i had used the product before during my UC days. Also applied some antifungal topically in anal area.
I am doing alot better over the last week since i started these three things. i take no antibiotics atm and the anal rectal pain is almost gone and my stools are firming up nicely. In my situation i think i had some fungal problem, as i saw a def improvement after starting antifungal treatment. Good thing too cause i got family flying in tomorrow so i should be able to have fun and enjoy time with them Smiler. Food for thought! Hope it helps someone out there.
