There are quite a few on this site that have, and have had great experiences. Here are just a few...probably easier if you PM them specific quetions, or, go to the Ostomy forum and look around there as they have lots of posts there:

Rob,

I just had my j-pouch removed on July 19th after a fifteen year struggle. I now have a permanent ileostomy. I had it done by Dr. Juan Nogueras at the Cleveland Clinic in Weston. He did an excellent job and I am so happy with my new ileostomy.

I had my pouch removed about 12 years ago. A year later I had a k-pouch done at the Cleveland Clinic.

My son Chris had his j pouch removed after 9 months. An abscess was then discovered. He had an ostomy for a year because the Dr who removed his pouch at Cleveland Clinic in Weston didn't know how to convert it to a k pouch. He had to wait a year and now he has a k pouch.

I am going to speak to a Colon Rectal Surgeon tomorrow about having my J-pouch removed. I have been struggling for four years now and I just can not take it any more.

I had my j-pouch removed 4 years ago after an 8 year struggle (and as many operations) to get it to function properly. I just wish I'd done it sooner because I could have saved myself a lot of problems, but then they do say that hindsight is 20/20.

The best thing about having a perminent ileostomy is that I am finally rid of all those horrible "butt" issues.

Good luck with your decision.

Thanks so much for the info. The CC in Westin is where I am treated. Basically, just sick of taking the meds and feeling tired all the time. Ever since I started taking the Cipro (500 mgs daily) my energy levels are no where what they used to be. Not to mention the problems they can potentially cause with joints, tendons, etc. .
Any way, when I did have the ileostomy, I really felt it was no big deal. I was just happy to be healthy again and off the meds.
I guess it's a bit depressing because of going through all the surgeries and then you still end up with another disease and taking meds again! Once again, thanks for responding so quickly.
Oh by the way, for those who had their pouches removed, how long was your recovery time? Like when did you feel you had your normal amount of energy again? How much time did you have to take off from work, etc. ? Thanks, Rob
