I have been on antibiotics for over 6 months for treating pouchitis, and now the doctors are saying I have Irritable Pouch Syndrome.
However I have been having extreme pain constantly. My entire stomach hurts, my back and last night I could not move. Anyone experience this? My docs do CTs and Xrays all the time and find nothing wrong. However they say "I am not a normal case" BUT THE PAIN IS OVERWHELMING! ANY ADVICE? Lindsay |

Sounds like IPS to me, since they have done all the studies to rule out other causes. Pain can be a major componeht of IPS and IBS.
The treatment should be antidepressants (for the pain, not for the psych effect) and antispasmotics. http://cms.clevelandclinic.org/digestivedisease/documents/POG_2003_Fall.pdf Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

hi lindsay..jan sounds right i think but also single antibiotics did not work for me when i went on two it stopped he pouchitis symptoms within a few weeks..i am on tindermax and levaquin..maybe it might be worth asking about that..using two at a time is not uncommon according to dr. bo shen in cleveland clinic..by the way he is often on the med. tests being done on pouchitis and cuffitis studies..so i am presently putting my faith in him..he would like to have me only need the tincture of opium and lactolose to maintain and as he says save the antibiotics for a rainy day..but so far i am still on antibiotics and canasa for the cuffitis..have not made the jump to lactolose yet or getting off antibiotics..
