It's been quite a while since I've posted, hoping for some help.....
Have had my pouch since 1996 w/ vag fistula repair in 2006. I had chronic pouchitis with the original surgery and was on Cipro (self managed) up until the fistula repair by Dr. Fazio in 2006. I have been off the Cipro since 2006 with no problems. For about the last 2-3 months I began to have more frequent stools w/ some night time leakage. For the past 3 weeks I have been experiencing an increase in the urge to go with more watery stools. I have also been having an increase in leakage at night (have had to change underwear at least 3 times in one night). I have no other symptoms - no pain, no fever, no bleeding, no straining to empty the pouch, etc......Could this be pouchitis? I leave AK for vacation to SC, New Orleans, and Las Vegas on Friday...sure would like to go w/o these problems!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks |

For me, leakage at night is my first clue that pouchitis is on the way. Usually as it progresses I get pain/pressure when walking or standing and the increased # of stools. I'd bet on the pouchitis.

Thanks Lori! I called my dr today & he prescribed Flagyl 2x/day for 5 days. Hopefully that will do the trick.

Only 5 days? Seems like a short course....would he give you some extra in case you are symptomatic on vacation? I almost always have some antibiotics on standby.

You would think so, wouldn't you? The dr. I see in AK isn't the one who did the surgery so he's reluctant to really do much. When I go to SC I hope to see my dr. who did the original pouch in 1996. He's great about seeing me & keeping up with my problems even though I now live in AK. Hopefully, he will continue the meds if needed. Thanks!
