Hi,
I am having a hard time with this pain that starts around 9 or 10 every morning and continues until I fall asleep at night. I am on Cipro now for pouchitus and have been on it off and on for about 2 years. Also been on Flagyl some too. I still have the feeling that I am not emptying fully but most painful is the rolling pain that seems to roll into my rectum. When I think I cant take it anymore and head for the bathroom and before I get there it lets up. When I do go most of the time its only a little. I think I would feel better if my stools were watery. I have become very frustrated. Its hard to stay on your feet every day and work like this. My GI doctor says I may have to have the bag back one day. He recentley also gave me Canassa suppositories. Can't tell one bit of differance with them. Waiting for the experimenting with all the drugs is hard to do. Oh yeh lots of nighttime leakage to. Back to my origional question though. What is this rolling pain? Thanks in advance.
Marie

Marie, My guess is one or both of two ideas. First both these drugs cause constipation to a degree, the other is it may be (but less likely) adhesions. I would try to increase your fiber intake with either Metamucil or just eating more veggies in your diet. See if you notice better emptying, and less rolling in your tummy. I am on Flagyl long term and have noticed constipation like problems that are really helped by taking Metamucil. I was just telling someone else here that we are not used to having slow transit or even a feeling of constipation because we are so used to being sick, which may be your case. Though when you say you are in pain thats what makes me think of the possible adhesions. Good Luck, Scott Mc

Thank you mrpickles. I really believe you are right. After I read your post I started thing when I lay down at night its the only time I get some relief. Thats when a little gas can leak out without an accident. I have started today with Metamucil Wafers and drinking some of the new juice out called Plum Start. I think I am already feeling a differance. Thanks again you really helped me a lot.

I have a J-Pouch and the reconnection was in January of this year. Every month I experience some type of severe rolling pain. My doctors seem to have nailed it down to my monthly hormone pattern. They prescribed a couple of things to try. I am 46 and they put me on seasonal birth control pills where you would have a period only four times a year. The theory behind this is that the rolling pain stems from the monthly hormone cycle and by breaking the cycle you wouldn't get the pain. I am not sure how this will work out. I just started the program and I have already forgot to take the pill.
The best thing I have found to counteract the pain is VSL3. This is a probiotic. I do not have to take Cipro or Metrazonidal anymore. No antibiotics no Bentyl ( that stuff made me feel wierd.)
Check out the website VSL3.com. My surgeon at Northwestern Medical suggested it and it definitely works!!
