I have had my J-pouch for 12 years and never had pouchitis. I know I have been really lucky aside from occasional accidents at night if I ate something funny I really haven't had any problems. For the past 2 weeks I have been having diarrhea and accidents at night - last night I had to change my underware 3 times I finally just resorted to wearing a pad. Am I going to need to wear depends for life at night or do you think I have pouchitis. I don't have any other symptoms, but diarrhea and night accidents. Any advice would be great! Thanks Smiler

The only time I ever get nighttime accidents is when I have flaring pouchitis. It's usually a sign to me that I need to rotate onto another antibiotic, something I have been doing many years to treat pouchitis. Once I rotate, the accidents stop.

You may want to talk to your doctor and see if a short course of antibiotics - cipro or flagyl - will stop the problem. If the problem stops after you take cipro or flagyl, it's very likely pouchitis.

Could pretty confidently say that it's pouchitis. For me, I start the antibiotics, and then with 24 hours, I'm sleeping through the night again without having to get up for underwear changes. If your symptoms do not begin to resolve with the first 48 hours, then it could be something else. From experience with this now...don't wait and hope that it's going to get better on it's own. You'll know within a couple days on meds if that's it.

Thank you all for your responses. I just moved to MD - Does anyone know of a good DR in Maryland?

Thanks
