Anyone tried to order VSL#3DS recently? I have had unremitting pouchitis since Easter and antibiotics work only for a week or 2. Doc now wants to try Canasa suppositories and probiotics-he Rx'd VSL#3DS, but my pharmancy didn't have them and tried to order and couldn't get them-she didn't know if it would be a couple of days or a couple of months! She offered me to double up on the non-DS VSL but the whole point was I was going to try to get it covered by my insurance. Guess I will try align or culturelle in the meantime. I emailed VSL customer service but have not heard backyet, so thought I'd check here. Anyone ever put pouchitis into remission with Canasa and probiotics? I am not too hopeful-he wants to give me 3 more weeks of trying this before using entocort or steroid suppositories... Heard back from the company-no surprise, turns out my local pharmacy are just morons. Insurance pre-auth paperwork is in motion. Fingers crossed this will do the trick. With my brocken sphincters the first canasa melted and dripped out within minutes, but I tried a second one and managed to keep most of it in for most of the night. Rowasa enemas used to be my go to back up treatment for pouchitis, but with brocken spincters they are not an option-SO hoping this works. I have a new doc who is not as communicative as I like. He barely talks and then just says, "We'll try X." I happen to like more of an understanding of what the doc is thinking, why, what the back up plan will be, etc. so I am going to have to get used to this. I just hope he is "on my side" and will be willing to exploit any and all options before just giving up and suggesting I go to an ostomy, which I have actively been trying to avoid for the past 30 years!!! 1st praying my insurance will approve the VSL#3DS and then hoping that I can get this pouchitis resolved. Being incontinent for 3 months makes a girl a little grumpy! Dx age 10-1982 Colon removed/Pouch age 19-Aug 1991 Takedown Dec 1991 Anal fistula surgery Dec 1998 Sphincter repair Aug 1999 | ||||

I get mine at Target. Canassa/VSL#3 has never really put me into a remission. I usually combine it with protofoam or an antibiotic or pentasa. But it has "keeped me" in remission for over a year now with few minor bips. I take it along with 2-4 VSL#3 and another probiotic.
