Pouchitis
has anyone had success with Rowasa enemas??Go ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I've had chronic problems with my pouch for a few months now. Mixed results with Cipro, Flagyl and Xifacin (sp?) as antibiotics seem to work at first for me and then not the second time. My doctor has just recommended trying the Rowasa (5 ASA) enemas. These never helped me when I had Colitis, so I was wondering if anyone with Pouchitis has tried these and what their experience was. Thanks, Mike Ulcerative Colitis for 20 years. J-Pouch stage 1 (of 2) done on Aug.1, 2005. Final surgery and Pouch activation completed on Nov.3rd, 2005.

These used to be my go to cure when flagyl didn't do the trick for pouchitis. They worked every time I used them. Unfortunatly, my sphincters won't allow me to retain an enema anymore since my fistula surgery, so I have been battling unremitting pouchitis for 3 months, and Rowasa is not an option for me. I am now using canasa suppositories and hoping they will have a similar effect, but the jury is still out for me. I'd be hopeful the Rowasa will work if I were you and wish they were still an option for me! Just to circle back on this. I had nice success for about a month with the enemas..before my luck ran out with the Rowasa (mesalamine) enemas. I started to slip and had to go on Cipro/Flagyl which has got me back on a good track. Ulcerative Colitis for 20 years. J-Pouch stage 1 (of 2) done on Aug.1, 2005.
