It started as gurgling and looser stools, progressed to terrible abdominal cramping with fevers (never higher than 102, usually 100.ish), and finally I vomited. After 4 days, I went to the ER, got IV fluids, they ran labs and it showed dehydration, nothing outstanding. I went home with percs, and we all thought it was viral.
3 days later the pain is better (of course I'm on meds too), but more generalized than cramping, I'm not vomiting, but still have fever and soaking night sweats and loose stools so there hasn't been any progress. I just had a baby via csec 6 wks ago but I was seen by my OB and everything was fine. Previous pouchitis was not this painful and the pain this time is in the high middle abdomen rather than pouch side but who knows where my pouch ended up after pregnancy The ER docs don't know about pouchitis. In your experience does it sound like it? I feel like an idiot suffering for a week like this. This message has been edited. Last edited by: semicolonized, |

I've had a pouch for 13 years (my kids are 6 and 8). Pregnancy completely changed my pouch. Sounds like pouchitis to me, but I would strongly recommend calling your GI Doc.
When I have "pouchitis" I have no pain, no fever,...just persistent loose stools. Be VERY careful. Loose stools, breastfeeding, and sweating are all very dangerous for you....add lack of sleep and surgery. Ack! I took all kinds of antibiotics while breastfeeding and pregnant...didn't really have a choice. My kids are fine. I wish I didn't put so much pressure on myself to only breatfeed exclusively. It wouldn't have hurt to supplement a bit with formula to make it safer for me. Take care of yourself as well as you would that baby Valerie |
