Alana- that is interesting about the kidney and liver.. my doctor never mentioned that... I only have one kidney you would think he would have mentioned that?
Rebe- I also took suppositories for about a month along with the cipro.. felt good for the most part... slowly took myself... I should maybe try those again for the blood |

Hi Tracy,
I have been on Cipro 500 mg. per day for over 2 years now. It keeps my Pouchitis in check and I have had no problems. I cannot take Flagyl or alot of the other antibiotics, but this one works well with me. I have a huge list of supplements/medicines as well as an adverse reaction to prescription drugs list I carry around with me at all times. My doctors found it difficult to give me medicine when I was going through UC before, during J-pouch hospital stay and afterwards. I don't know why I have systematic reactions, allergies and adverse reactions to many drugs, but thank God I don't have the same problem with Cipro. I've had a few surgeries since the take down procedure and each time I've been give Cipro while under anesthesia with no worries. I was told, as Jan said, that as long as I don't have a reaction to it then to continue taking it as directed. Good Luck. |

I have been taking cipro for over 12 years for pouchitis........can anyone here top that? So far it hasn't killed me. I take it in tandem with flagyl (1000 mg cipro, 500 mg flagyl) and rotate off onto Xafaxin when the cocktail loses its effectiveness. It keeps the pouchitis in check but I do still have some mild chronic inflammation that shows up on pouchoscopies but does not really bother me too much.
