Hello all,
I was posting here a while back when I had my j-pouch surgery about a year ago etc ... after the operation I've been feeling amazing, back to normal, can eat anything etc. 3 days ago my stomach starts getting a bit fragile and I start going to the bathroom a bit more than usual but it has risen since then (today it was about 15 times / give or take). Bloating, noises, growling etc. No blood, not real pain ... but discomfort for sure. I do feel something is a bit *off*, just started a new job and last week has been filled with stress etc. Didn't eat so well either. I'm a bit anxious to revist any kind of hell that I went throught before the operation ... don't have a clue if this is pouchitis, but was curious to know if there is a long process to detect it at the hospital - do they simply give you anti-biotics and all the problems are gone withtin a few days? That's what I've heard. Anyways, ANY comments would help! Thanks, Martin |

Martin,
It does sound like pouchitis, but everyone responds differently to antibiotics so you should consult with your gastroenterologist for appropriate diagnosis and treatment. If it is pouchitis and antibiotics like cipro are flagyl are prescribed, symptoms will likely decrease within 48 hours, but they may come back and you may end up being on antibiotics chronically, like me (13 years). The good news is its manageable and it's not likely you will be as sick as you were before the colectomy as a result of the pouchitis. By the ways I love Montreal and will be heading there for the Jazz Festival in July and hope to get some of that great smoked meat at Schwartz's.
