BB/Yeast - Help!

Ok, so I have had the worst BB ever, since getting my pouch. None of my usual tricks are working.

I am on Keflex (started that Friday)for pouchitis so I'm wondering if yeast could be partly the culprit? Have raised bumps on bottom, itch like crazy...and the itch and burn also feel like it's inside the pouch.

Have a call into the doc to see what they think, but of course no one has called back yet. Any ideas on what I can do to relieve some of the itch/burn/pain until they do call back?

Would upping my probiotic (culturelle) to 2 a day instead of 1 be of any help? (I have ordered VSL#3 but it won't get there till Thursday). I know some people have said taking 2 probiotics daily can cause the big D - and I def. don't want that!!

Any advice would be wonderful!!!

If you think you have a yeast infection OTC monostat may help with external issues. But to remedy it I'd say--the high probiotics and you may need to take diflucan to eliminate it.

Good luck

Try Gynatren. You can get it from Whole Foods. Works every time for me!

I would start by keeping the area clean and dry and patting vs. wiping when you clean yourself. I think baths help a lot. Sometimes when I get yeast issues, I try to dry myself with a hair dryer (on cool!) so that it gets dry w/o rubbing and further irritating the area. If it's butt burn from the bile acids and wiping too much, a good cream with zinc oxide applied thinly for a couple days should help. If it's yeast you may ask for some powdered medicine so it will keep it dry and you can alternate that with soothing creams or yeast creme. If it is yeast and it's really bad, you can always ask for an Rx of an antifungal like Diflucan (sp)

Have your doc call in a presciption for nystatin anti-fungal powder and after you are clean and dry after each movement, apply this liberally. I have struggled with BB for months now and this is helping me. I also still use some of the creams (lately just vaseline), and attempt to get the cream inside the lower anal canal first before applying the powder externally.

Same thing just happened to me on Keflex. I used some Monistat externally before bedtime and it helps a ton. I'm sure Nystatin would work as well, but mine also extended the vaginal area so I used the Monistat. Both will work to help ease the butt burn.

It really made me angry that I suffered for weeks and thought the butt burn was simply part of the 'adjustment' process and I got more information on this board than I did from the nurse at my surgeon's office. I had to mention to her about the yeast before the light bulb went off that augmentin can cause yeast infections. I cannot say I can blame her though as she is severely overworked and stretched to her max.

I am three days off augmentin and with the help of the nystatin, I am feeling better. I did have some odd pelvic pain today, so I am not sure if the pouchitis will flare it's head again soon, but the itching that had me in tears daily and in multiple baths every day is now almost completely gone.
