Hi Jan,
I hope you can help me. I have pouchitus off and on all the time. I am currentley on Flagyl. I feel sometimes as though I am constipated. Never thought that would ever be a problem but I go and go and strain with only a little movement. What can I take for this without causing to much diahrea? Thanks for your help.
Marie

Try fiber supplements like Metamucil or Citrucel. Drink plenty of fluids.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Marie, I am on Flagly for my pouchitis too, now just a maintenance dose. The thing with flagyl is it seems to really slow us down quite a bit. Now I am sure, just like me, that you are used to going to the bathroom a lot which is a constant when you have any IBD. Do not worry about the less frequent bathroom trips as long as you are drinking, passing stool and not nauseated. This for me anyway is typical of taking an antibiodic. You should be worried when you are vomiting and not passing stool. I think that always being sick we feel like a little bloating or feeling full is bad, but it is probably a good sign that you are getting better. Also like Jan said if you need it try some fiber supplements to help move things along. Good Luck, Scott Mc

mrpickles,
Thanks so much for your reply. I know that you are right! I have had a couple blockages before and I think I panicked. I did have to call the doctor again though. I was having a lot of rumbling going on in there but very little passage. He put me on some Canasa Suppositories. I tried one last night for the first time. Had horrible leakage. Sometimes I get very frustrated. One thing works so great for a little while then the pouchitus comes back with a vengance. He put me back on Cipro for a while also. Next time (and I know there will be a next time)when I go on Flagyl I will remember what you said. Thanks so much.
