Just wondering if Bowel Rest would be a treatment for Pouchitis? Seems logical to me.
1) Go off solids for a week to rest the pouch. Less stool, less bacteria. 2) Take cocktial of antibiotics to kill all the bacteria, along with VSL#3 DS. 3) Gradually reduce the amount of antibiotics and increase the amount of VSL#3 DS. 4) Then gradually eat foods again. Just wondering if anything thinks this would work. Im thinking a shock to the digestive system could do the trick. If I ever get chronic pouchitis again (it has been several years), I may consider this approach. |

KDCPouch,
I really like the imagination reflected by this post. I would say go for it. I have not actually tried it but I would be interested to hear if you get any positive results. I have tried eating less or eating a diet of chicken soup when I felt really lousy but never stuck with anything like this for a week. Back in 2008 I was on antibiotics for a year for pouchitis. Fortunately ever since I had a few instances of pouchitis, but was cleared up quickly with antiobiotics.
I dont have pouchitis now, but if it does become chronic I will likely try this approach and post my results. |

I'm working on #3 right now. Today is my first day off the antibiotics after gradually reducing over the past month and am now taking more VSL#3 to replace it. I would be curious to see if increasing your food intake helps. Let us know!

I actually tried #3 alone, and it failed with VSL#3, with Culturelle, and with Align. Hope you guys have better luck.
