I have chronic pouchitis, have had it for quite a while now at least a couple of years. Will leaving it alone and not doing anything about it, i.e.taking meds or probiotics be detremental in the long run?I just put up with it and have become used to all the problems associated with the pouchitis.

Personally, I would not "put up" with something that potentially has an effective treatment, once I knew that treatment was available.

If you have not read this article on the diagnosis and management of pouchitis yet, I think it is worth a look. It is quite comprehensive:

Also, this article from the Cleveland Clinic on j-pouch diseases is excellent:

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

It took quite a few meds to find one that actually worked for my symptoms and it is such a relief and 100% difference.

What meds have you tried to treat the pouchitis with?

Okay, my reasoning might be a bit off here, but , if your on so many toxic meds anyway.....whats one more if it will help you feel better? With any luck, a course of antibiotics to get it under control, then hit it with the probiotics( nontoxic, good for you), you might feel better.....

I know where you are coming from with all these crappy meds some don't do much some give nasty side effects but I will tell you this I rather take the meds maybe short term and feel better than deal with that I know thats me but, you may not have to take it long term and also you could switch drugs so you don't get long term effects I do for pouchtis I switch between 3 so I don't get damage due ot long term effects I had enough damage from presidone.

I would think you will hurt your self in the long run if you do nothing about it. anyhow good luck on what you decide its your body remember that.Smiler
