Because I've had my pouch since '06 and never have had an abdominal cramp since. Lately I'm having cramping, problems after eating, sometimes a little nausea, watery stools, more frequency, and don't feel like I'm emptying pouch.
My question is how do they check for it? Scope somehow? And does it get progressively worse if I wait? Boy what an ugly reminder of a fraction of what I used to go through with colitis. Thanks Laurie aka LaurieF |

I know of people in the UK who have been treated as pouchitis from symptoms alone, even if it's their first attack. However my gastro has requested a scope for me to ensure it is pouchitis as he says having antibiotics etc unecessarily is just asking for trouble further down the line. I am waiting for a scope and a defaecating pouchogram-oh joy! He wants to see how the whole pouch is functioning,shape/angle etc and whether it is emptying as all those could lead to pouchitis in future. He will also take biopsies and check for pouchitis. My symptoms are not too severe so I am happy to wait for proper diagnosis.

thanks. I made an appt for tomorrow. THey didn't say to prep in any way though. I'm surprised that my doc never has done an internal exam of the pouch since I got it in '06. I don't miss it...just surprised. He might now though to see whats going on.
