So I've had the J-pouch for almost 7 years now. It took a good year to finally get comfortable with eating, sleeping, etc. I now am at a point where I need to lose some weight, I'm back up to 215 lbs. and need to be around 180 ideally. Anyway, I have trouble eating salads because it tears me up. I have trouble eating very small portions and skipping meals because it creates really runny #2's. The good thing is that I really can't GAIN weight anymore. I've been at 215 for about 3 years now. Has anybody else experienced tough weight loss because of the pouch causing diet problems? Working out is not an issue for me, I just don't like doing it

The excercise bike has always been my main stay. Maybe warm up on the treadmill with a 5 minute walk first. The bike is easy on your knees and you can watch tv or read etc while doing it. I myself make playlists for it of music to push through it.
As soon I'm past my restriction time, I'll be getting back on to finish loosing the weight I gained with the ostomy. Ross,
I'm 9 years post surgery. I found myself back to 210 lbs 3 years after the pouch. I joined Weight Watchers and lost 35 lbs. I've maintained my weight at 175lbs for the last 5 years. I think the type of food that is promoted by WW is perfect for us Jpouchers. I believed in it so much that I am a meeting leader one night a week, it keeps me on the straight & narrow. I do excercise 6 days a week. I run (jog) 3-4 miles 3 or 4 days a week. Play raquetball or use cross training machines on the other days. I can say that for my age, 59, I feel better and have more energy than I can ever remember. Yes, I still have the runnies at times, but mostly it is easy to control. |

Strong physical body sap a lot of energy. They also burn a lot of fat, which is helpful. Fatigue is caused by reduced physical activity can consume nitric oxide. It rejuvenates the body and reduces injury recovery of the body when back pain and joint pain. The program supports the immune system and works well in anti-aging agent.

# 1 Work out to music. Invest in an iPod if you don't already have one. Studies show that people who work out to music tend to stick with their program long-term. Choose upbeat songs that inspire and motivate you and compile your own playlists. If you're a lifelong learner, download podcasts or audio books instead. Listen and learn while you pedal the stationary bike or rack up miles on the treadmill. # 2 Take a class in something new. Gyms, yoga centers and dance studios usually offer a free introductory class. This is a perfect way to see if Pilates, spinning, or power yoga is something you'd be interested in.Too busy to take a class? Browse at the library or Wal-Mart for workout DVDs, and check out some new moves in the comfort of your own living room. # 3 Buy yourself nice looking workout clothes, including sports bras and shoes. It's easier to get enthused about being active when you're dressed for the part. # 4 Hit the great outdoors. Bicycle, speed walk or hike outside one or two days a week instead of limiting your workout to a gym or dance class. Being around nature is restorative and energizing at the same time. # 5 Find a workout buddy. If you enjoy walking, get a neighbor to go with you a few mornings a week, or suggest a walk to a co-worker during lunch hour. Cycle with a group on Saturday mornings, or join a hiking club to explore local trails. # 6 Participate in a 10K, charity walkathon or bike race. Choose an event two or three months away to train for. Knowing you'll be competing (even if the prize is nothing more than a tee shirt) adds an objective to your workout. forzest online |

Skip the exercise. Don't believe everything people say about it as a weight loss strategy. Exercise has many benefits, but it is over-rated as far as weight loss alone.
Do a reasonable high protein/veggie diet and get off the carbs. My favorite is South Beach, phase 1. Exercise will just make you hungry. Get the chemistry sorted out first! I think exercise is pretty essential for weight loss. Exercise doesn't make me hungry at all.
I believe that one's body is the very best teacher. It tells you when you need something. I'm a lacto-ovo vegetarian and have been for almost 30 years. I have absolutely no problems with it. Many others would. I don't like to eat a big breakfast. It doesn't work for me. It works for many others. I'm fine eating carbs. Others aren't. If I'm craving something I indulge because I know it's my body telling me that I need something. (I haven't gone wack-a-doodle for soap flakes or lead paint yet....) We eat too much. We all know that. Portion control is pretty essential. (Something my brain has not embraced. Damn brain. It's ALL my brain's fault.) I think exercise is helpful for metabolism. kathy *********************************************************** Lately it occurs to me, what a long strange trip it's been..... Grateful Dead |

I've lost 30 lbs in the last year, 5 each month and the following month I gain them back again...then loose them again...and gain them back again
Without the exercise and activity I would blow up into a huge tub of lard. I am a chocolate eater, I live off of peanut butter and bananas and have never met an ice cream that I didn't like. Maybe exercise doesn't make you loose weight (you need to do a lot to loose a little) but it does keep you from gaining it....plus muscle weights more than fat and takes up less space..so you look trimmer and feel fitter.. As years go by, exercise is the only thing that remains a constant in my life. Sharon It could be worse...oh, wait..it already has been! then I guess it can only get better from here.... |

I lost 70 pounds in 9 months last year through a medical weight loss program. There is no magic formula other than calories count and you have to keep your metabolism up. Once you get fat, your body naturally wants to keep it that way, so you have to keep the calorie count down and the activity level up. I guess there is a simple formula. You have to burn more than you take in. So yes, even if you exercise like crazy, if you eat 4000 calories a day, you will not lose weight, even if all those calories are "good foods" as opposed to "bad foods." You need a calorie deficit of 3500 calories to lose 1 pound. 30 minutes on the treadmill at maximum incline and a speed of 2.7 only burns 500 calories (estimated on the treadmill computer). Plus, the closer you get to your goal, the tougher it is to lose because you don't have the energy burning of carrying all that extra fat around.
For me, the treadmill has been my friend. I don't like it, but I record TV shows that I can only watch there, so that is my carrot on a stick. It distracts me and the time flies by pretty good. I lost my walking buddy, and my husband is on a different schedule than me (not to mention the big spill I took walking at night a few months ago...). Like Sharon said, exercise needs to be a constant...so pick something you can keep doing as part of your routine, like brushing your teeth. The world won't end if you skip it a few times, but it needs to be routine. So, we will see if I really learned anything by having to lose all the weight I gained by how well I maintain it and change my eating habits long term. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

I'm a big believer in exercise and contrary to some posts, it has helped me to lose weight and maintain weight loss. It has also helped decrease my stress level, elevate my mood, lower my blood pressure, allows me to sleep well, and build bone. I feel fit and I feel connected to my body. When I work out alone I listen to an MP3 player and it really helps with distracting me and motivating me. I also have exercise classes which provide a social outlet and room for group complaining! If you are going to start exercising find a variety of activities and mix it up daily so you don't feel like you're in a rut. Exercising is also a great way to meet new people.

I will be the biggest believer of all, if someone could just find some science that proves exercise actually does make you thinner!
The more I look, the more I find stuff like this-
http://dietforhumans.com/2011/...e-makes-you-thinner/ I put this on my facebook page, and the first response was...

I'm still working google over doing 'proof that exercise makes you lose weight' searches, and still finding things to the contrary.
I just ran across this one, which is discussing Taubes' first book "Good Calories, Bad Calories-"
It then goes on with a short transcript of Taubes appearance on Larry King Live...
