I want to have a vasectomy next year. Does anyone know of any issues relating to vasectomies for men with j-pouches? Seems like there could be a risk of punctering the pouch. Anyone have any experience?

I had a Vasectomy, but mine was done about 3 years before the J-Pouch surgery...

There is absolutely no risk to your pouch with a vasectomy, as the pelvic cavity is not even entered. It is done through the scrotum.

Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass.

Jan is right. I had mine 6 years before my surgery I had mine on a Friday and was able to go back to work Monday. Plan a weekend of doing nothing and going nowhere. Ice will become your best friend. The pain is minor, unless you try to pick anything heavy up then you will wish you hadn't. Rent some movies, and plan on hanging out in the lazyboy all weekend. It was the best thing I ever did no regrets and no issues at all. Good luck

One BIG suggestion; make sure to ask the doc. for lots of anasthesia down on the boys! Trust me on this one. My doc. didnt give enough and I kept telling him I could feel everything, so he tells me to just take a deep breath and that this was normal, but as soon as he cut the
vas-deference on the right one, out went the lights. Long story short he gave me an extra dose of anashesia on the left one-never felt a thing. Ever since my surgery in '03, I have noticed that it takes more than the normal amount of pain meds to take affect (being 6'6' may have something to with it too).

Vasectomy should not be an issue. Mine was done directly through the scotum (ball sack). Should be no invasion with internal organs...
