Were any of you recommended to do kegel exercies before you had your TD surgery? My surgeon recommended it... He also recommended to hold an enema mix with metamucil (8oz) and hold it up to 8 hrs... If I can do that, I can have my TD... I just wanna get your opinion's on this...

I'm surprised no one has responded to you yet. Probably because you posted on the Men's forum. Post in the General discussion forum and you will see quick responses, for future reference.

My surgeon did not specifically suggest kegel exercises. However, your surgeon is wise to suggest doing this. I don't know how long since your first surgery, but the longer you go the longer those muscles have to deteriorate. And they are in for quite a shock after TD.

Interesting requirement for TD. I don't know that I have seen that posted by anyone as a requirement from their Dr. for TD. It will give you confidence more than anything, I would think. But most of us just have our TD and suffer through the first few weeks of getting used to the diarrhea and all. If you can hold it 8 hours - wow! Maybe if you stood on your head.

My visiting nurse told me to start Kegels 3 weeks after my first surgery. I did them when I remembered throughout the day. Like in the car when driving I'd do the squeeze or standing brushing my teeth.

Nothing was mentioned about holding the enema but maybe I had alittle practice holding because of the stool that bypassed my ileostomy.

I haven't had any problems holding anything since TD, no leaks either. So I'm not sure if holding the enema is necessary but I assume the Kegels helped.

Good luck!
