I've recently noticed that I produce less semen after my surgery.
Is this change in volume a permanent feature of the surgery and will this effect my ability to have children? Does anyone have experiences on increasing output? Thanks, G |

I myself have no output any longer so it can effect that , mine seems to me permenat, as its been 3 yrs.
My advice is to see a doctor for it and have them run test. STEP 1 SEPT 20 2006 STEP2 MARCH 14 2007 UC JULY 16 2003 hernia scar revision and more march 22nd 2008 end up being step 1 all over again resections . may 10th infection in wound had to have surgey to open me back up sept 10th perma ostemy SO much for step2 14 operations in all due to UC ended up with open wounds as of july09 and perma ostemy not working out well. |

My husband also has zero output, and it's been 4 months since surgery. We've been told that it can take up to year before things go back to normal (nerves need to heal), but if things don't change in that time, it's permanent.

I had my surgery 9 months ago and I am just starting to get some output.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

In my case, I'd say it went the other way - much more after surgery. I think that's because I was so sick prior to surgery, nothing really worked well anymore. Once I got the pouch and healed up those types of things got much better since I was so much healthier overall. I was lucky and didn't have any nerves or anything affected by the surgery.

"less semen After surgery" wow. Googled those exact words earlier today and found nothing, I just found this forum! So it's been almost two months since step one, the first time my wife and I had sex was 7 days after surgery, ( my dr seemed suprised at this) lol but 7 days is a ling time... Anyways the first few times I had nothing come out it was SO discouragng but now it's about a third of what it used to be.. Thank goodness my wife is already 7 months pregnant with our first kid, does anyone know f this affects my fertility for next time?
UC since I was 17. meds eventually stopped helping, was always sick, got married and learned remicade can cause birth defects so stopped it feb of 08, Jan 09 wanted to start a family, stopped 6mp, wife got preg n may, decided to be healthy for my baby, had step one of two jpouch on sept 11, takedown surg was on nov 9.. Baby Jude was born January 21,2010 and I'm so glad I did the surgery! UC is not even in our vocabulary anymore |

Hey guys. Just wanted to give you all some hope. I had my surgeries in late 2003 and had absolutely no output for well over a year. Eventually, I regained more and more. It's not as much as I used to produce pre-surgery and the "shooting power" for lack of a better term is not as good, but it did come back. My wife got pregnant in May, but unfortunately we lost the baby in September. As sad as this is, I am happy about the fact that I can in fact get her pregnant, because I had that concern in the back of my head for years. Oh, and it's not like we tried all those years. We started trying 6 months prior, so it didn't take too long.
It can initially be a blow to your ego with no output, but in most instances it will come back. My surgeon said there are options even if you cannot "go" anymore, so don't worry about fertility. |

Yes, I noticed this problem too after surgery. It took sometime (i.e. over 9 months) but the volume seems to be getting back to normal.

Wow I have been experiencing this too as well, it seems a lot less will come out and very weak ejaculation, probably because the nerves are so close to the PC muscles, Im sure it get's better with time but i had no problems with less semen when the j pouch was created just when i was taken down. weird.
Severe UC and CMV infection dx Jan. 2009 Tried Asacol, Prednisone, Prednisone IV drip all failed, acquired blood infection, 1/21/2009 Colectomy 6/21/2009 J Pouch Formation 10/14/2009 Takedown 1/12/2010 - Diverting Ileostomy due to complications.. currently takedown. |

I had very little output for approx a month after surgery, and erections were semi-stiff. I always had what I call extra-volume and force....and I was very worried after surgey.
But, it's gotten much better - rock hard erections now and almost back to where I was pre-surgery as far as volume - just a temporary thing for me, thankfully. |

In 65 percent of the patients transurethral resection of the ejaculatory ducts improved semen quality (greater than a 50 percent increase in total motile sperm count) and 20 percent initiated a pregnancy an average of 6.1 months postoperatively. Statistically significant increases in total motile sperm count were achieved in men with azoospermia and those treated for oligo-asthenospermic indications; the improvement also was shown to be sustainable. Complications occurred in 20 percent of the men.

It's a known side effect called "retrograde ejaculation."
The stuff goes into the bladder instead. I don't have plans for kids, and haven't had a woman complain yet. Learn to like it. Saves on towels!
