It may be a stupid question, but are there any guys with ileostomas here that are sexually active?
If so, does the stoma bother you in any way? How do you "handle" the bag before, during and after sex? |

hey there,
I just used a Phoenix belt. It hid the bag sideways and kept it from hanging down. I also made sure the bag was empty... When there is a will, there is a way It helps to have an understanding partner. My wife has been with me through the whole UC thing and has been super!!! David |

I think the bag bothered me more then my wife, I'd ask her during if it was pinching or in the way, her response, what bag.

Married and not a issue with wife... I use the thin belt (you know in case i go to the advance positions lol)but doesnt get in the way... At first i use to wear boxers and tuck it in there and use the fly part.. now its not a issue... Once your ok with it and partner then its fine... They also make smaller bags u can hook on if u use a 2 piece... good luck!

I am so done with trying to make the J-pouch work, after 18 months. Dr and I are going back to the Illeo. Looking for encouragement and finding it. Thanks? I had an Illeo for about 6 months and did pretty good with it. A lot better than now. But got to ask what is a Phoenix belt?

Married here... The sex and ileo thing is/was never the most intimate time of my life. It helps if your partner is understanding. But as for me, it was embarrassing and not very sexy; especially if it made those lovey sounds. Good luck. My wife, god bless her, was very good and went along with everything associated with intimacy and ileo (may the two never meet again).

Hi
Phoenix belt is available from Byram healthcare, covered by most insurance at about 80-20%. It is like a belted /snapped ACE bandage around your abs with a circular hole and cover for teh pouch. I use a thin white belt and tape the end of the pouch along my right side securely-after rinsing it, emptying as much as possible;-and taking a couple of gamma oryzanol and apple pectin CAPSULES (not pills) 30 minutes prior to slow things down. When we are 'active' I wear a sleeveless/tank top/A-line snug undershirt. Like others above, my wife is cool and it is probably more of an issue in my mind than hers. Good luck eric |

Hi guys, maybe I shouldn't be in here, but I got curious, and then I wanted to share. When I got my ileostomy, this lady wrote in this article that she got women's tube tops for her husband and he would slip them on to hold the bag in place. It sounded like a good idea, I have been looking for snug, stretch tube tops. In the meantime, I tie colored scarfs together and wrap them around my hips. Even an ace bandage could work, huh. I find I feel better if I "secure and hide", then I can totally forget. Vicky

My hubby had his surgery Nov. 2 Due to complications he was in hospital for 5 weeks. I would say within the first week he was at me, and of course I couldn't say no. There are no real issues. As being his wife, I don't even look at the ileo, yes it may make some noises sometimes, but there are no real restrictions. I think regardless, intimacy still needs to be in the relationship, everyone has needs, and just have fun with it. To be single, and approaching the subject for a guy would be different, as always keep communication open but there really shouldn't be any issues. We haven't had to resort to a belt. IF anything my hubby has better sensations than before surgery. Atleast thats what he claims!! Good luck. Oh yeah, I hope you guys don't mind another woman checking out your threads, I'm just trying to keep on top of things with my hubby, we are new to the ileo thing, and are prepping for the takedown in March/April.
