Since I got my J-Pouch my PSA test has been going up. It is not real high for my age but did move from 2.5 to 3.5 - 4.0 in two years. I have no overt symproms and an ultrasound exam of the Prostate shows all is normal. My urologist says he will do a biopsy as a last resort as he is fearful of harmng the J-Pouch. (Anybody here with a J-Pouch get a needle biopsy?) One theory is as I have had mild pouchitis, this inflammation or irritation in an adjacent area may be the cause of the higher PSAs. I am now on antibiotics and will re-test soon. Anybody else have relavant experience?

Havent posted in while just been checking in the background. I have had the left over inflamed rectum cause prostatitis. When they took out the rectum and create the pouch this problem was supposed to go away.... well it did to a point, symptoms are less but sometimes something just flares up... My pouch is not connected yet but I am really pushing for this problem to be figured out and corrected if possible.... Yes I think your doctors are puzzled a bit too since we are unique cases... I am a young male by the way 23 so we are in a different boat a bit...
My PSA started to creep up (4-7 range) before I came down with UC and I had two biopsies. Actually they did 10 one time and 11 another -- all negative.
Since then I had a colectomy with a j-pouch but have had lots of problems with it, although not pouchitis, and one time my PSA went as high as 17! But it went back down to my normal range after some antibiotics so they thought it was prostatitis and had cleared up.
I too have asked my primary doctor about any biopsies that might be necessary and he thinks that it can be monitored OK with PSA tests and MRIs. I still have the j-pouch but don't use it and am contemplating having it taken out. That is the main reason I talked this over with him.
I too would be interested if anybody has had a biopsy with the j-pouch.
