Still reaching out to you men about impotence. Had UC for 20 years and My first surgery 11/06,take down 2/07.. everything seems to be healing and its been 13 weeks... But I'm still having impotence and no desire. I'm 50 and 1 yr prior while with UC I started to notice no desire. I was on fire before that could not get enough of it. Now I have very litte improvement no firmness and it's a big struggle to even have the desire going. My fiancé and I live together for 1yr now and have been together for only 1.5 yrs and she has not seen the best of me. My doctor has put me on testosterone patch and jell and my level is still at 160. Queation for you guys did you have this problem during UC and how long after the 2nd surgery before things improved and do you have low testosteron levels.?

Guys thanks for discussing this very important topic. I am still exploring surgery as I am 21 years with UC (incl a ten year full remission in the earlier half) but my libido and desire have both been weak throughout my active UC, whether because of chronic gut pain, the meds (esp pred), or both I don't know. The problem ended my previous relationship, and though my GF has a strong sex drive she is a keeper who wants to stick with me through thick and thin... but I sure wish I could finally give her more in that department.

I have used Cialis with great success down there except it seems to worsen my UC, warming up the blood flow down there all over the pelvis and other areas that are inflamed during flares. Has anyone else noticed this during their UC (or pouchitis?) So this is making we worry about the permanent ileo vs j-pouch question again.

With every post I read I discover that although I have been fighting pouchitis for almost 3 years, I still have to consider myself lucky. I had a colostomy for almost 20 years due to a ruptured colon from diverticulitis. After battling UC/Crohn's ( I could never get a true diagnosis) my doc recommened the J pouch. Both surgeries went well and the only complication I have had is chronic pouchitis. Except for the generalized weakness after both surgeries I have had no problem with either desire or impotence. So, Badplumbing, obviously impotence is a risk of any surgery in the abdominal/pelvic area, compared with the problems of UC, from everything I read before my surgery it is a very small risk. Good Luck.

I have FAP wasn't sick feeling at all. Everything was working great had a Vasectomy 6 years ago. 7-2-07 I was DX with FAP three weeks later I had my surgery and then 5 weeks later my TD. Things have not worked in 6 months. I am now taking testostorne injections of 200mg a week. was doing the jels and my levels went from 201 to 175. trying all thre ED drugs. my urologist said to treat it like a dammaged arm or leg and do regular therpy. That is more diffucult then you would think with kids, work, pain meds, night time potty issues, and the my bride has to be in the mood. I hope it gets better I have both ED and RE things sure are a mess the wife has been great about the lack of attention. I would really like to hear from someone that had problems and after 6 months, 9 months, a year, or even a year and a half that things are better. You hear just wait it will work but I have yet to find anyone that says yes they did have it start working. This is a very diffucult subject to talk about but als very important to those of us you have lost it at any age but the younger you are the worst it is. I am only 41 DANG IT

Guys, its been four years since my surgery. The first six months was spent getting the kinks worked out, butt burn, pouchitis, comfortable diet, daily probiotics etc. The next year was spent getting back into my gym and getting the rest of the body tuned up, now better than ever. The one thing I notice with ed more than anything is hydration. I've tried gels, I've tried Levitra, all work fine, but if I let myself get dehydrated, nothing works at all. The main function we lost with losing our colon was processing and removing water, and I find if I work hard to stay hydrated, add a little boost from Levitra, I am good for a enjoyable evening. Now I'm not talking about a few beers, 8 bottles of H2O a day. I discovered this by accident, got put into the hospital for dehydration after a bad bout of the flu... two bags of IV solution later, I was embarasing my self every time the cute young nurse came into the room!
