I am now nearly 2 weeks post take down. Between my stages 2 and 3 when I kept discharging mucous from the rear I noticed I didn't seem to be able to pass urine independently because when I relaxed enough to pass the urine I couldn't control the stuff from coming out my backside at the same time ! - I was hoping once I had my stage 3 this would improve but I still can't pass urine without something coming out the back as well. It would be nice to be able to do a stand up wee in a urinal again ! Has anyone else experienced this and when will it stop ?

Colin,

I was also concerned about this. I learned to interpret the sensations and control the muscles. For the first few weeks after takedown I always "sat down" to make sure it wasn't a problem. Muscle control and sensation gets much, much better after a little bit of time. I don't have any difficulties with this anymore, so there is hope for you too!

Hey Colin... I feel your pain man. But rest assured, you will be able to urinate standing up again! I think it happened for me around the 4 weeks post-takedown timeframe. I might have even posted something about it. Every once in a while I still just sit down to urinate because I have to go #2 anyway.

But Rick is right, the sensations are re-learned and it gets easier and easier, until it's just a distant memory. You'll be right there with the 'ole boys in no time!

Oh guys...for me...I just sit and take care of both. I can still do it standing but I have had a couple of close calls...so I said...what the heck, just sit down.

Initially I also just sat and handled both things at the same time.
I remember a personal feeling of accomplishment when I could urinate standing up independent of anything else happening!
It will happen, just give it some time.

I find that I now tend to do both at the same time. In fact the pouch seems to empty easier when urinating at the same time. So, if I need to urinate I empty the pouch while I'm at it.

It sounds like the women wouldn't give us much sympathy on this issue. It's a perk to be able to stand and urinate. Smiler

You're right there Rick! Big Grin

It would be very novel to be able to urinate standing up, though if any of you girls out there have seen the British film "The Full Monty" you'll know that there are some women who can accomplish the upright position for this function! Eeker Eeker Eeker

Ohh, but on the bright side guys, our wives/girlfriends (or both!) won't complain about putting the seat down!

Even though I am a woman, I totally understand wanting to feel like you have control of your body back. Maybe this is too much information, but I was curious about your post and tried just peeing when I was sitting (not standing) on the pot, and I could do it. I'm 20 years post-op, so I guess those muscles are pretty practiced by now. Smiler

Isn't it funny how the Topic reads "Probably One For Men Only !" and out of the 336 views, how many do you think were women?? Roll Eyes I know I was curious and had to read what it was about!
But for women too, it's a muscle thing and it will all come back in time. Good luck!

Colin,
I had problems and I was done in #1 step because of cancer it took about 3 to 4 months before I could stand at urinal the good news is that you will be able to. Our bodies all react different but over time the amazing thing is we heal and go on with life.

GOD Bless

Guilty! I'm a girl who just can't resist those "boy's only" things!

I'm glad I saw this post because I was talking to my husband about it. I was telling him that I had the hardest time trying to just pee and I wondered if it would ever change. I then thought of how it must be for a man to have to sit everytime. Then I realized I didn't care so much since I have to sit no matter what! Razzer

It's a bit tricky but I have made it into somewhat of a game to see if I can pee and only pee. I have to say, I'm getting pretty good. Wink
