I seem to not urinate as much as before my JPouch. I'm thinkning that b/c I have BM's 8-10 times a day (takedown was ~6 weeks ago), there isn't that much extra liquid floating around in my body.
Anyone else experience this as well? When I do urinate, I find it's difficult to control not having a BM at the same time. Just learning muscle control again, perhaps? First UC flare: 11/4/08 Admitted to hospital: 11/10/08 Total colectomy: 12/10/08 J-pouch construction: 3/10/09 Takedown: 8/19/09 |

Yes, definitely because of the increased water loss through the gut. Try to make sure your urine stays dilute.
You should be able to relearn the independent control over time. The nerves/muscles may have been weakened from the surgery. Jan Take a deep breath and relax; this too will pass. |

It took me a long time to rebuild normal muscle control/ feeling with that as well.. it gets better with time. I also rarlely have to go without having a bm, since I have bm's so often. And don't have the urge to go seperately very often..

Interesting what you are saying.
I had a 3 step process beginning in March 07 and finishing Aug 09. I had noticed that with the frequent BMs and bag emptying that I seemed to urinate less and did most of my urination when emptying my bag. Right after takedown I was really surprised how the urge to urinate came back so strong. (In particular the process was distinctly separate from the BM process). Seems to be opposite of your experience. Guess everybody's different! Lew |
