I'm three and a half weeks post 1st step jpouch surgery. I had to go back in 3 days after I was originally discharged b/c I developed a very painful clot in my portal vein and an abscess in my pelvis. I was hospitalized for two and a half weeks. During that time I had several j/p drains installed including one in my pelvis region. I had no problems after the original surgery, but now when I get an erection I have a lot of pain in the muscle that controls the tightening of the penis and urethra. Its enough to make the erection go away almost instantly. This has been going on for over a week now and I'm starting to worry. Is this because of the drain? Or is this permanent?

I have read about other members having similar issues and it was a temporary problem. However, I do recall some taking up to a year to fully resolve. So, do not loose hope if this does not resolve quickly. I'd give it another week or so and if it has not improved at all, ask your surgeon for a referral to a urologist, if only to ease your mind. Your anxiety can just make the pain worse.
