Staying power

Hello all,

Thanks to each and every member for providing information about their experiences. It has been most helpful to me as I progressed through my surgeries. Until now any question I've had has been easily answered by searching previous posts. I now have a question I wish to ask that I don't think has been addressed so far as I can tell.

I had my take down surgery about 6 days ago. The problem i'm having actually manifested after my first surgery. Sexually, I seem to have lost my staying power. I used to be able to engage in sexual activity for as long as I wished and had complete control over when I wanted to orgasm. After my first surgery I became very sensitive and could barely last minutes after I achieved erection.

Over the 2 1/2 months I had a temporary ileostomy the problem seemed to subside slightly up to the point of my takedown surgery. Now that I've had my takedown the problem has worsened again. I've never heard of this occuring before, so I'm wondering if anyone experienced anything similar and if it subsided with time. I'm no longer the stud I used to be :P

Any insight into this issue would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Ceth

Sounds like the original nerve trauma has been irritated again by the use of your pouch following take down. It can take up to a year for nerves to heal...so patience is your friend. In the meantime, you can ask for an Rx for something like Viagra, Cialis, or Levitra, which should work well for you.

Thanks for the quick response. That makes sense and I figured as much. I just hope it eventually returns to normal, but as you said I will be patient.

Is viagra and the like supposed to help with staying power? I don't have a problem achieving or maintaining an erection, it's just that once I engage in sexual activity I don't last very long in that I don't seem to have much control over my orgasm anymore.

It should help. That is the problem my husband has with his diabetes, and the Levitra makes a difference. Or are you talking about premature ejaculation? If it is that, no those drugs will not help.

I would not be too concerned after only 6 days! I'm surprised this has even come up so soon after surgery (no pun intended : ) )

The nerve damage/ interuption I experienced made it difficult to even properly urinate. I had issues with muscle control etc.. its like there was no communication between my head and my uh "head". It could take 20 mintues of intense focus just to get myself to finally go. This was frightening to say the least! Slowly but surely, I regained control, nerve/communication function etc. It takes time, but I would say you are in good shape that so soon after surgery you can already get things going..

Give it some time. As the nerves heal and calm down, you should be able re-learn the muscle/ climax control that you experienced pre-op.

I would say that I am back to 99% how I was before surgery (it has been 6 months, but I have been good to go since about 2-3 months out) My only issues now seem to be more related to meds, especially pain killers. Really similar to the effects of drinking too much..

Anyway, good luck. Be patient. Sounds like you have nothing to worry about though.

P.S. No longer being the stud you used to be comes with stress and aging anyway.. Not just us lucky ones that have had to fight this UC and surgery battle! Like Jan said though, there are some good options and meds that can help make us all studs again, lol ; )

I've had prostate problems/prostatitis since a teenager and have always had "preemies", which is a known complication. Like Jan said, it probably has to do with the nerves in that area, as the surgeons have to do a lot of careful work there, and the prostate is more sensitive after surgery. Hopefully it will settle down, no pun intended.

Good to hear this is normal and things should continue to improve. I've already found a temporary solution to the problem as well. I'm fairly fond of trying alternative supplements as a first line of defence before using medications. Sometimes they do nothing, but sometimes I'm pleasantly surprised. I started trying horny goat weed, a supplement I researched and purchased at the health food store. In the last few days my libido has shot way up to the point where I was able to go at it five times in one day (have not done that since I was 20). The first or second time I may be a little quicker on the draw then I used to be, but thereafter I can go as long as I want again. The horny goat weed seems to help with staying power. I don't like relying on supplements/medication for long term problems, but this seems like it will do quite nicely until my nerves have had a chance to heal. Nice alternative to Viagra I think though.

I know Smiler

First time I saw it in the store I giggled. Apparently it's called that because the person who discovered it was a chinese goat farmer who noticed that when his goats ate this particular weed they became much more sexually active.

It was funny when I bought it at the store because as the checkout person scanned the bar code it at first didn't respond. For a horrifying moment I thought as I was standing there that she was going to call out "price check on Horny Goat Weed", "Could I get a price check on Horny Goat Weed". Thank god that only happens in the movies!

My husband had jpouch surgery in 2006 and it was succesful. But we are having problems with orgasms. It seems like he has no problem getting an erection but he cannot maintain it long enough to have an orgasm. Has anyone out there had this problem? And if you do, do you think Viagara would help? He is really embarassed about this. But I think we need some help with this.

It certainly could help and is worth a try. Have him get a small script from his doctor and see what happens.

Those nerves can certainly be affected by all of this. I found after surgery (and have seen a couple other guys comment they experienced the same thing) I was more sensitive than before and everything was easier for me. However, over time things have returned to pre-surgery normal - which is okay but not super-human Smiler

So, things can still adjust and change even though it's been several years. And it could also be mental - thinking about it too much can really mess you up. One or two "failed" experiences can keep you on that track. That's the other reason the viagra is worth a try. If the issue is more of a mental thing, the little blue pill may help get past that too.

Will Viagra affect the staying power?

Even I was doubtful, it was my first time taking a pill, though I had no problem getting an erection. Adds of Generic Viagra were pouring in from everywhere and I decided to capitalize on this new drug for Impotency. Somebody suggested its easily available from Shoppillrx. I ordered a 50mg pack of Generic Viagra and it has worked very well. There wasn’t a noticeable difference until the 3rd dose for me. Because it allows more blood to flow into the area, there is a slight increase in size, but the orgasms are a little less intense. In any event, the stuff did a nice job of correcting my problem.I can go for a long time now before climaxing, and there is better control. Hope this helps…for a long time for me.

Increase Nitric Oxide and Boost Blood Flow to the Sex Organs

Nitric oxide widens the blood vessels that supply blood to the sex organs and allows them to carry more blood into harden them. Men need it for any erection and for women, its crucial they produce high levels so they can prolong and enjoy orgasm. If you take the right herbs, they will give your body the nutrition it needs to boost levels and the best herbs to take are Ginseng, Horny Goat Weed and Cnidium.

Increase Testosterone and Enjoy Longer Lasting Sex!

Testosterone is needed for energy and if levels fall, you will feel to tired for sex but levels can be increased by taking a number of herbs, the best of which are - Tonkgat Ali, Tribulus and Horny Goat Weed. If you take them, you will notice and increase in energy, stamina, libido and sexual endurance.
