My husband had surgery last March (step 1 of 2) and ever since, he's had retrograde ejaculation. He had the 2nd surgery (takedown) done in May. Basically from March until last fall, he had zero output...nada, nothing at all. Then starting last fall, a little bit of semen would come out a few hours after he climaxed. Then in December, a tiny bit of semen would come out minutes after climaxing. Once he even had a little pre-cum before he climaxed. Well that all lasted for a couple weeks, and now he's back to zero output (for the past month). Have any of you experienced something like this? Like going from zero output, to a little, and then back to zero? I would love to know how things ended up for you.
It's been almost 11 months since his surgery, and I've heard that if things don't improve by a year, the damage is probably permanent. We're starting to loose hope. We really want to have children. Anybody out there have RE and went on to have kids? What are our options? Artificial insemination or IVF? Do we have any other options? In March, if nothing has improved, what do we need to do? Do we call up a urologist? Thanks for any advice and/or guidance...it's much appreciated! This message has been edited. Last edited by: BLECCE, |

I heard that sudafed can help, but you should ask the urologist.

I was fine until my last surgery and then there was nothing. After almost 2 years I am slowly getting more and more ejaculate, I am not where I was pre-surgery but it is slowly coming back.
Reality is a nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there. |

As a bisexual male, I knew my ability to recieve anal sex would be gone, and that was a huge weight on my mind, but it was emergency surgery and there was no two ways about it: Had to be done. I reconciled myself to limiting myself to oral and "top" only.
Then the other shoe dropped. After the second of three surgeries, I was horrified to find I had retrograde orgasms. I just don't know if a straight person is able to comprehend the impact upon as gay or bi man's identity to have no discharge at orgasm. It's been a year since the second surgery, and I still have daily thoughts of suicide. My ability to get into a relationship is severely impacted by the knowledge that I am "damaged goods" and by the reaction of those gay men whom I have confided in (instant end of relationship). I've tried to find a gay urologist in Portland, but have been unsuccessful. I just can't talk about my sexuality to a straight doctor - I've tried. They dismiss all of my concerns as if my sexual identity is an inconsequential thing that is a waste of their time. I regret agreeing to the emergency surgery now. What if the UC had gone into remission? Even if I had died it would be better than living like this. Don't reallly know why I'm adding this - don't have a question, and don't have anything to contribute in the way of an answer for anyone. 1st surgery (Emergency Resection) Jan 2009 2nd surgery (Reconstruction) June 2009 3rd surgey (Takedown) October 2009 |

If retrograde ejaculation is caused by drugs, removal of the specific drug may resolve the condition. Retrograde ejaculation caused by diabetes or following genitourinary tract surgery may be responsive to the use of epinephrine-like drugs (such as pseudoephedrine or imipramine). Common cold medications can sometimes be used to correct the problem. In addition, your physician may put you on medication to decrease the acidic quality of your urine, preventing the urine from killing the sperm may be prescribed. After ejaculation, the sperm is removed from the urine and may then be used with IUI or an IVF procedure. If retrograde ejaculation is due to severe nerve or muscle damage, it may not be possible to restore normal ejaculation. For men who want to father a child, it may be possible to retrieve sperm from the urine following orgasm for use in artificial insemination forzest online |
